Webb’s desire to follow his instinct when looking for imagery is influenced by Robert Rauschenberg, the American collage artist who created artworks from materials found around on the streets around his studio. The found images are usually from the 1950s, a period that Webb is particularly inspired by, but are combined with contemporary sources that grant his characters the ability to travel through time, and space. Webb sources his imagery from shops and charity shops in Brighton and Lewes, Sussex. The collages deal with pertinent issues including war, inequality and the environment. Joe Webb’s art is composed of found imagery that the artist alters and edits in order to provoke the viewer.
